Omar's experience with green buildings is multidisciplinary, with 10 years of experience with green buildings in practice, as well as research and academia. Omar is accredited by the U.S. Green Building Council as a LEED Accredited Professional with Building Design and Construction specialty (LEED AP BD+C), he is also acknowledged by the International Finance Corporation (IFC) at the EDGE program (Excellence in Design for Greater Efficiencies) as an EDGE Expert. Omar incorporates with projects’ design and construction teams, as well as facility manager to achieve up-to-standard green buildings; through leading the Integrative Design Process (IDP), and providing enhanced Building Commissioning (BCx). Omar's in-depth experience is with office buildings, throughout the building process timeline; since project's schematic design phase till building operation. Omar also establish, develop, and fully document the whole-building's detailed energy model, conduct energy related Measurement and Verification (M&V), and Post Occupancy Evaluation (POE) on occupied buildings, and perform analytics out of the Building Management System (BMS). Besides professional practice, Omar believes in the significance of the complementary role of research. He is teaching undergraduate courses at the American University in Cairo (AUC). He completed his Master of Science (MSc) in Architectural Engineering in applying AI to energy simulation, thesis entitled “The Integration of Buildings’ Energy Simulation Tools (ESTs) with Intelligent Decision Support Systems (IDSS)“. He also has diverse research publications related to sustainable development, with focus on climate change, buildings’ energy efficiency, and indoor environmental quality.
